Ho ho ho mofos. I'm back.
We had an amazing time on our cruise. It was a little chilly a few of the days, but much nicer than it was at home. It felt glorious to be in the sun without Internet access. Two days at sea, stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Castaway Cay, Bahamas...lots of sun, books, relaxing, and tons of laughs. MFD and I went with our good friends and cruise crew Jill & Frank. We're a good mix and we travel well together.
We had sunrises over the open ocean, truly one of my favorite things to see.
And of course the sunsets, best off of the back of the ship on deck 7, which we treated like our own private deck.
Previously we've been on the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream. The Wonder is a smaller, older boat with definite differences, but I liked it. The staff was as accommodating as ever but seemed more relaxed on the Wonder. We had the best dinner team we've ever had. We had a lot of fun around the ship - hanging in the lounge chairs and playing shuffle board on deck 4 after dinner, fireworks over the open ocean, karaoke, shopping, numerous spa appointments, a show in the theater.
We had brunch at Palo on a sea day and it was as amazing as I remember. The rest of the food was not as good as on the Dream and Fantasy, particularly breakfast and lunch. Still all around a good dining experience.
Cozumel was hot and lovely after the ferocious winds died down. We spent half a day at Playamia - beach, pool, slide, food and drinks included. It was languid and serene until the second half of the day people descended on the beach as I was trying to nap...it was sort of like the scene in Caddyshack when all the workers get in the pool. When we left there, MFD and I had lunch in town and wandered around to do some shopping. I got awesome silver pendants that are my Christmas present from him.
Of course we are those tourons (tourists + morons = tourons) that do the bird photos near the cruise terminal. My parrot threw my sunglasses to the ground and ate my hair. We did not see eye to eye. All in all we had a great time and we give the day two thumbs up over gorgeous water. We liked standing on our balcony watching people haul ass back to the ship as it was getting close to leaving time.
Castaway Cay...my favorite. It's Disney's private island in the Bahamas, and Serenity Bay is the adults only beach. It's my favorite. We even had a fellow passenger hork down a zillion glasses of pinot grigio and give us a concert in spanish, singing along to music only she could hear. She's like I'm my own party and the guy next to her said oh honey, I know you are in a bless your heart voice. MFD and I kicked the day off with a massage in a cabana on the beach. Heaven!
Around 3 am Thursday night we heard an emergency called over the PA system, and the room number was one off from ours. I swear I thought I was in a dream and it was in our room. It was a medical emergency two doors down. Really nice people. Our nerves were shot and sleep was sort of fruitless after that. We were up and off the boat by 7 a.m. to head to Disney in Orlando...more on that later.
Details:
-Spent the night before the cruise in Ft. Lauderdale
-5 Day cruise on the Disney Wonder out of Miami
This was my third Disney cruise. I love to talk cruises so hit me up if you do too or if you have any questions!
Hope you all had a great week last week! Tell me something good.
It looks like you had a great time. We have never cruised, but my family has and they love it. My parents even did one of the European ones. When you're anywhere in the Caribbean, you can't go wrong. Love your dress in the first picture...looks like a maxi dress...a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteI mean first picture of the 4 of you...oops.
ReplyDeletesounds like an awesome time! i would LOVE to have spent some time on the beach last week because it was crap weather (snow storm and all)
ReplyDeletehaha "tourons" is the best new word I've ever heard. looks like you had an amazing time, I am sufficiently jealous!
ReplyDeletePerfect pictures and once again you two made the most of your time! Love the Minnie and Mickey pics!
ReplyDeleteVery happy you are home safe and sound!
Love, Your Momma
Welcome back girl!! What a fun vacation and pretty much has me dreaming of the sun and heat!! xo, Biana BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteWonder-ful!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good time! I've never been on a cruise but will one of these days. Christmas in Disney looks amazing and those sunsets....jealous!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an awesome trip!! Glad you guys had a safe journey and welcome home :) I'm not a particular fan of cruises because I don't like the concept of being on a boat for a long period of time but this one sounds pretty awesome. :) Have a great one Stephanie! -Iva
ReplyDelete"Ho ho ho mofos. I'm back." <----This is why I freaking love your blog. You are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the food wasn't as good because it looks pretty! I hate birds so the a-hole parrot just fuels my fire, ha. An adults only beach sounds lovely - too bad crazy drunken fool had to act like a child! The sunsets are beautiful and I hope you guys returned rested and feeling festive!
ReplyDeleteThose sunsets though!!! I am glad you had a wonderful and well deserved vacay. Hmmm... something good... stay tuned cause it's gotta be coming. Just more usual bullshit for now but I am hopeful!!! Cheers. Glad ur back:)
ReplyDeleteHahaha MFDs parrot and him look like they're best f-ing friends. Such an animal whisperer that man is.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so fun!
this is incredibly unfair! I want to go!! so fun!
ReplyDeleteGah, I am sooo jealous! We're most likely going on a cruise for Spring Break w/ friends, who have never cruised so we're going on a less expensive cruise line, which I know makes me sound like a snob, but after traveling on this line a few times, I'd like to upgrade, but we can't beat the price nor do our friends "get it" in regards to what we're talking about and the company will be worth it. I'm glad you had such a good time!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Looks like it was a beautiful vacation! SUPER jealous over here!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an amazing time. Joe hates to travel but I think he might like a cruise. I'm willing to try- would be such a hardship for me ;)
ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE cruising (as you know!), and I've been wanting to try Disney Cruise Lines as I've heard nothing but amazing things. I'm hoping to try out the Dream soon :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a blast! I've never been on a cruise because thinking about being stuck on a ship and not being able to leave gives me anxiety. Some people are scared of flying, I'm scared of being on a cruise ship...
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a cruise before but this really made me want to go. I'm adding it to my next 101 in 1001 list. Those sunrise/sunset shots are incredible.
ReplyDeleteOh man! So many picture and so much fun! I have never been on a cruise before. I feel like I would be nervous out on the open sea. I am not a swimmer at all, so if something happened I'd be SOL and that scares me. Also, I get car sick sometimes so I have a feeling motion sickness on a boat would not bode well for me. But I love everything Disney and this looks like a ton of fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had an awesome time. The whole idea of cruising makes me feel claustrophobic, but if anyone can make it bearable, it's probably Disney.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see a blogger post about going on a cruise I'm all, "NEXT YEAR." Someday it really will be "next year," maybe when we live somewhere we don't have to pay almost $1000 just to GET to a cruise port, haha. Because I could seriously use a few days on a boat with no cell phone service and warm weather...! Glad you guys had fun!!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, it looks so wonderful and fun! I love the pictures of you all with the birds, I was totally a touron in Hawaii and did those photos as well, so fun.
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a cruise, ships scare me... but I want to go because I think my fear is silly. Have you been on other cruises, or just Disney? Is Disney super worth it? It looks magical. I've heard lots of people suggest waiting to the last minute to book, have you ever done that? Sorry for all the questions :)
Looks like a heavenly vacation. Are the Disney cruises overly filled with kids? Like more so than another cruise line? Yea I have a kid myself and we were thinking of going on a Disney cruise but I just pictured it to be overrun with crazy kids. Glad you had such a good time and you were able to escape the cold!
ReplyDeleteLooks like such an awesome trip, and i am pretty non-cruise myself. This might change my mind. The sunsets are gorgeous. Minus the emergency call sounds fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunsets!! Sounds like an amazing trip. I thought it might be a little chilly but it's warmer down there than Orlando. I've only ever been on Royal Caribbean cruises but I'm sure the Disney ones are wonderful. Did you leave from Ft Lauderdale or Port Canaveral?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're back...I haven't had my usual 3 a.m. reading material!!! Glad you guys had an awesome time and the sunset photos are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI am very jealous. I'm glad you had fun. I'd love to go on a cruise someday.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Glad you had such a great time!
ReplyDeleteDamn, MFD was just giving free kisses out to ERRYONE, wasn't he?! I like the idea of an adults only beach on their island because, well... kids suck. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been following your trip via Instagram--it looked amazing! One of my students also just told me what a great time she had on "the Disney boat," lol.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! You got some fantastic pictures!! I love the sunset pictures! You guys look like and sound like you had a blast! Sorry the food wasn't as good though...that is so disappointing!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are great! The parrot ones crack me up! You are brave. Haha! I didn't realize you've done Disney every time. What other locations did you do? Friends of ours are trying to talk us into the Alaskan Disney cruise, but we've already done an Alaskan cruise and I don't know how different it would be as Disney. Probably not worth it. I want to do a trip to Disney World and cruise, but not until the kids are like 12 and 15.
ReplyDeleteIf you used that very first photo on the left as a christmas card it would be a joyous slap in the face to al the people that have to take their photos bundled up with boots and sweaters, lol.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could cruise, it definitely seems like the best bang for you buck when it comes to travel.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!!! And now I want to go on a cruise!
